July 2023
2023 R2 delivers valuable enhancements to our AVxcelerate Sensors with camera and radar model improvements to perform accurate simulations. We've addressed critical perception challenges related to custom chromatic aberration for cameras and the integration and placement of radar sensors.
AVxcelerate camera model can now generate virtual synthetic data from available user inputs like advanced focal length, custom focal shift, and other pre-sets to introduce, eliminate, and test for chromatic aberration issues.
Users can now define the thermal properties of the environment and assets to simulate the thermal imager's behavior. Ready-to-use Teledyne FLIR thermal cameras convert photon information into temperature maps and thermal images.
AVxcelerate can now leverage the results and placement data from HFSS to perform accurate simulations. The calculated radiation pattern, including the surroundings effect and radar placement, is preserved during simulations.
AVxcelerate users can fully automate the data augmentation process from various sources using a C++ or a Python API. In the 2023 R1 release, data augmentation automation capability was limited to track creation, but with R2, it is now fully capable of generating tracks and assets with tags.
Our camera sensor technology is critical to the work we are doing in supporting autonomous function for our customers. Using Ansys AVxcelerate Sensors during ADAS/ADtesting and validation, we were able to confidently test real-life scenarios thatwere previously off-limitsto us with simulation, withcomplete confidence in theaccuracy of our results. Even though the work to develop a well-roundedsolution is still ongoing, the collaboration between. Ansys AVxcelerate Sensors and Continental camera sensor solutions is already delivering promising results.”

To achieve a high level of accuracy, advanced driver assistance systems/ autonomous driving (ADAS/AD) technology requires Continental to target its camera sensors for simulation. Continental engineers do real-world driving on test tracks or roads to train, test, and validate ADAS or AD systems. They also do component-level testing and simulation; however, only limited engineering simulation solutions are available to tackle this problem. Even though the effort to develop a well-rounded solution is ongoing, the collaboration between Ansys AVxcelerate Sensors and Continental camera sensor solutions delivers promising results.
