Higher levels of autonomy are requiring OEMs and their suppliers to adapt to the latest technologies as quickly as possible and to understand and transition to a new type of decision-making — from the human to the machine. However, in this world of disruptive innovation, two key concepts lag: demonstrating safety and development efficiency. The systems you build must be able to make intelligent decisions online, based on sensor inputs, in a quick, reliable and safe fashion. Traditional development processes for decision-making software fail to address the complexity introduced by use cases such as autonomous driving, urban air mobility or military operations. Instead, we are turning to emerging technologies like numerical optimization and/or deep reinforcement learning to address these complex challenges.
