Lay-up Mapping for a Composite Spring in Composites

Overview

In the case of thick composites, the layered shell theory can cause significant errors in the obtained results. In some cases, it is necessary to work with 3D models, also referred to as Solid Models.

This workshop considers a full cross-section composite spring consisting of a laminate wrapped around a UD core aligned with the axis of the spring.

Prerequisites

  • Introduction to Ansys Composite PrepPost (ACP)
  • Prior knowledge of Python is of benefit but not a necessity.
  • When scripting in ACP, it is recommended to use a source code editor such as Notepad++ or Visual Studio Code.

Learning Outcome

Following completion of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Understand the Ansys Workbench workflow for layup mapping.
  • Model the composite spring by mapping the ACP Composite definitions onto an external solid mesh.
  • Review and check the mapped solid model properties.
  • Run a structural simulation with a mapped composite model.
  • Postprocess the results of a simulation with mapped composite model in Mechanical.

Agenda

This course is not intended to be scheduled and will not be delivered as a virtual class.

The approximate time estimated for completion of this workshop is 1-hour.

Topics Covered

  • Lay-up mapping Composite Spring
