Exploring Structural Instability in Ansys Mechanical (Self-paced Learning Available)

Course Overview

This course is designed for users of Ansys Mechanical who want to explore instabilities in structures, focusing mainly on Buckling. Buckling is the sudden change in shape of a structural component under load, such as the bowing of a column under compression or the wrinkling of a plate under shear. This course provides the necessary background on Buckling, and different ways in which it can be solved in Ansys Mechanical. The course also reveals some important techniques which are used to solve convergence issues in Nonlinear Buckling Analysis.

Prerequisites

Teaching Method

Lectures and computer practical sessions to validate acquired knowledge.

Learning Outcomes

Following completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand what Structural Instability is and the importance of studying it.
  • Perform Linear Eigenvalue Buckling Analysis and Nonlinear-based Eigenvalue Buckling Analysis.
  • Study Pre- and Post-Buckling Behavior of a structure using Nonlinear Buckling Analysis.
  • Resolve convergence issues in Nonlinear Buckling Analysis using different techniques.
