Drop Test Simulation Using Ansys Workbench LS-DYNA (Self-paced Learning Available)

Course Overview

Drop testing is one of the most important stages of design and development of many products. Engineers conduct drop tests in a controlled setting in different orientations to evaluate if their designed product can withstand drop impacts. With numerical simulations, engineers can have better insight into the causes of failure in drop tests which enables them to take corrective measures. In this course, we will learn how to perform drop test simulations using Ansys Workbench LS-DYNA.

Prerequisites

Teaching Method

Lectures and computer workshops to give students the knowledge and confidence they’ll need to apply what they’ve learned to their own designs.

Learning Outcome

Following completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Simulate the effects of dropping a product, or dropping something onto a product.
  • Account for complex contact and material nonlinearities that may result during drop tests.
  • Incorporate best practices for achieving efficient solutions while overcoming some of the more frequent challenges one might experience in performing such simulations.
