Ansys VeloceRF: Design of High-Speed Buses and Transmission Lines for On-Die and Silicon Interposer Applications

Course Overview

In this workshop you will learn how to use the Bus Builder for creating custom complex buses and transmission lines for on-die and silicon interposer applications. The Bus Builder is a VeloceRF add-on module that enables the design of multiple signals, power/ground lines and custom ground shields on-die, supporting a powerful methodology for implementing arbitrary topologies of any complexity. The Bus Builder will automatically create the full layout and electromagnetic model of the cross-section that has been designed, capturing all critical layout-dependent effects (LDE) even for the most advanced sub-7nm CMOS processes.


To benefit the most from the material presented in this workshop, you should have:

  • A basic understanding of custom IC design.
  • A basic understanding of on-chip transmission lines and high-speed buses  .
  • Familiarity with UNIX and a UNIX text editor (nedit will be used in this class).

Teaching Method

Lectures and computer practical sessions to validate acquired knowledge. 

Learning Outcome

Following completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Work efficiently with the VeloceRF Bus Builder to generate transmission lines and high-speed buses of arbitrary complexity for on-die or silicon interposer applications.
  • Import/Export a transmission line/bus cross-section definition.
  • Include dummy fill in the topology.
  • Take advantage of the outputs of the Bus Builder.
  • Build basic and complex configurations (microstrip, coplanar waveguides (CPW), shielded CPW, complex high-speed buses).
