Ansys Exalto
Getting Started

Course Overview

This hands-on course is designed to teach you how to to predict electromagnetic coupling effects at block or chip level during the physical verification sign-off phase of the design within a traditional custom IC design flow using the Exalto electromagnetic modeling engine.

The course also introduces you to the Exalto user interface (UI) and how it is used to generate a fully coupled electromagnetic (EM) model of any combination of nets selected by the user, which is then automatically back-annotated to the original schematic or extracted view of the design and can be simulated in any circuit simulator as-is.

Prerequisites

  • Basic understanding of custom IC design flows and electromagnetics
  • Some general familiarity with EM solvers
  • No prior knowledge or experience of Exalto is required

Teaching Method

Self-paced slide presentation and computer practical sessions to validate acquired knowledge. Emphasis is placed on tool background & methodology as well as workshops.

Learning Outcome

Following completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of electromagnetic coupling in custom IC design flows
  • Outline some of the fundamental concepts of Exalto
  • Describe the value of using Exalto in an IC design flow
  • Understand how Exalto integrates with traditional LVS/LPE flows
  • Understand how Exalto generates fully coupled electromagnetic models
  • Describe the general use-model and flow of Exalto
  • Navigate the Exalto UI to model EM-sensitive parts of an IC such as transmission lines, interconnects, digital high-speed lines, spiral inductors or transformers and capacitors
  • Run Exalto on a real example of an IC circuit
