Turbomachinery Design (Self-paced Learning Available)

Course Overview

The Ansys Turbosystem is a comprehensive suite of tools for designing and analyzing your turbomachines. The training material has been organized to offer you a shorter learning path for the design and the flow analysis and optimization of any turbomachine (pump, compressor, turbine, fan). You will be introduced to the individual Ansys Turbosystem tools and how these are combined in a seamless workflow in Ansys Workbench for designing your turbomachine.

Prerequisites

  • A technical education and background but an engineering degree is not required.
  • This course is using Ansys Workbench. It is highly recommended that you take the 1-hour, self-paced course Introduction to Ansys Workbench.
  • This course is using Ansys DesignModeler. It is highly recommended that you take module 1 of the self-paced course Introduction to Ansys DesignModeler
  • This course is using Ansys CFX. It is highly recommended that you take modules 1-3 (CFD part) of the self-paced course Ansys CFX Getting Started

Teaching Method

Lectures and computer practical sessions to validate acquired knowledge.  A training certificate is provided to all attendees who complete the course.

Learning Outcome

If you are new to Turbomachinery Design, we recommended you take the following 3 courses in sequence, otherwise you can chose your workflow depending on your inputs.

Following completion of the 1D/2D Conceptual Design self-paced course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the basic structure of the Ansys Turbosystem, and use it for creating a conceptual design of a turbomachine (pump, turbine, fan, compressor).

Following completion of the 3D Single Blade Optimization self-paced course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the basic structure of the Ansys Turbosystem for conducting 3D single blade design and flow analysis of a turbomachine.

Following completion of the Multi-Stage Flow Analysis self-paced course, you will be able to:

  • Combine primary rotating turbomachinery parts (impellers, rotors, …)
  • Combine primary stationary parts (inlet or outlet guide vanes, volutes, machine housing, …)
  • Combine secondary parts (return channels, cooling chambers, …)

and analyze/optimize your complete machine performance using the Ansys Turbosystem.
