Free Surface Post-processing with Ansys EnSight

Course Overview

This course is designed for CFD users who would like to post-process the results of a multiphase free surface simulation using the capabilities of Ansys EnSight. The example case is a simulation of tank sloshing. 

This microlearning proceeds through free surface post-processing in a step-by-step process. You begin by learning how to visualize both the free surface and the wetted portion of wall surfaces, and then how to use the flipbook capability to speed up the animation of transient data. Following this you will learn how to get numerical and averaged values, such as the average velocity below the free surface, and to finish, you will learn to visualize the center of gravity of the fluid and how to create a Python script to automate this visualization.


Teaching Method

Video demonstrations with the input file provided to the user so he can follow up with the video.

Learning Outcome

Following completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Visualize the free surface and wetted wall surfaces using Ansys EnSight.
  • Speed up the animation of transient data using the flipbook capability.
  • Calculate numerical outputs including, among others, the wetted surface fraction and the free surface height.
  • Calculate averaged values, such as the average velocity below the free surface.
  • Visualize the center of gravity location of the fluid.
  • Create and apply a Python script to automate the visualization of the center of gravity.
