Laser Powder Bed Fusion Print Analysis in Ansys Mechanical

Course Overview

This course is designed to provide knowledge about Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) build process simulation. 

It will give you a general overview of the challenges when simulating an LPBF print process. Once you have obtained the optimized shape from Ansys Mechanical using Structural Optimization tools, you will be able to simulate the printing manufacturing process. 

It requires you to consider the orientation of the part in the printer, the materials to be used and the design of the support structure. The course teaches you how to use the wizard for LPBF process simulation. Calibration steps are also explained in the course. 

Prerequisites

  • A technical education and a background in the fundamentals of finite element analysis are recommended.
  • A familiarity with Ansys Discovery for Geometry Preparation is strongly recommended.
  • The completion of the following course is strongly advised:
    Ansys Mechanical Getting Started.

Teaching Method

Lectures and computer practical sessions to validate acquired knowledge. A training certificate is provided to all attendees who complete the course.

Learning Outcome

Following completion of this training course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the Lumped layer approach.
  • Consider the Material information to provide.
  • Create the workflow for thermal structural analysis weak coupling and inherent strain methods.
  • Run calibration analysis.
  • Set up a 3D print process simulation using the wizard for LPBF process.
