Foldaway Vacuum Cleaner Handle Discrete Optimization (Part 1 of 2)

This is a demonstration of DesignXplorer VT being applied to the Foldaway vacuum cleaner handle. The goal is to optimize the handle to minimize weight while holding the deflection and stress to the same values as the original design.
For this demonstration we will investigate the elimination of some of the stiffening ribs.
The steps in this demonstration will be as follows:
  • Perform a structural analysis.
  • Review the original model's results.
  • Prepare the model for a Variational Technology solution.
  • Determine which design parameters are the least influential on stress and deflection.
