Circular Economy Data and Tools for Materials Teaching

The term “circular economy,” which encompasses many strategies for waste reduction in industrial systems, has become very prominent in recent years to counter the wasteful “take-make-dispose” approach to product design. Though in its early days in terms of implementation, there is a real demand for data and tools that allow effective circular strategies to be adopted.

The Sustainability database of Ansys Granta EduPack contains multiple data tables that can be used to introduce circular economy fundamentals to the next-generation of product designers and engineers. These fundamentals cover everything from geo-economic attributes of elements and materials to the energy and CO2 emissions of material production, processing, and recycling. Using advanced charts and selection tools in Granta EduPack, it is also possible to quickly find applications for secondary raw materials. This webinar will include a case study demonstrating how this sustainability database can be applied to identify solutions for recycling consumer products such as plastic toothbrushes.
