EM Wave propagation and reception

Antennas are used for signal transmission and reception and the 2 main systems are communications and radar systems. This case study focuses on these 2 systems regarding the derivation of the Friis and Radar range equations respectively, before comparing simulation results between Ansys HFSS design and theoretical calulcations for the signal power at the receiver end for both cases.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding Friis and Radar range equations.
  • Understanding the electric field propagation effects.
  • System composition and parameter understanding.
  • Applying knowledge to real-world applications and examples.
  • Comparing simulation results to theoretical calculations.
