Using Bolt Pretensioning in ANSYS Mechanical and MAPDL

Bolted connections are common structural components in many industrial applications and most of them are subjected to pre-tensioning conditions. Preloads in bolts and other structural components can significantly affect the deflections and stresses that they experience during operating service. To accurately assess the operating integrity of these components, the effect of the pre-tensioned bolted connections must be included in the simulation. Traditionally including the effect of bolt preloads in a FE model requires significant user effort. Mechanical and Mechanical APDL now have the robust capabilities for efficiently modeling pretensioned sections.
