Optimization of Solar Cavity Receivers Using ANSYS Software - Webinar

In solar thermal power generation, the sun’s rays are reflected from hundreds of parabolic mirrors onto a central tower, where the collected rays heat water, making steam that drives turbines to generate electricity. To do this cost-effectively, the solar power receivers on the tower must be optimized for optical and thermal properties to minimize energy loss. Researchers at solarUP, the Thermoflow Research Group at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, present the results of their simulations using ANSYS Fluent, ANSYS DesignModeler, ANSYS DesignXplorer and ANSYS Meshing to show how computational fluid dynamics (CFD) can successfully model the thermal processes occurring in the solar power receivers to optimize power generation. Their methods offer valuable lessons in the design of future, cost-effective concentrating solar power plants.
