Improve Pump Diaphragm Reliability Using ANSYS Nonlinear FEA - Presentation

Parker Hannifin uses ANSYS nonlinear FEA to dramatically improve its T1 pump elastomer diaphragm's fatigue life and pump reliability. The diaphragm design includes an overmold on an aluminum disc insert that connects to an eccentric conrod driven by the pump's DC motor at the center of the diaphragm. The pump maintains a short fatigue life due to early ruptures of the diaphragm near the edge of the disc. Through stress analysis via ANSYS, engineers discover high peak stress of the diaphragm during a cyclic stretching while the pump runs under load, especially vacuum.
