Comprehensive Gas Turbine Combustion Modeling Methodology

A comprehensive gas turbine combustion modeling methodology must account for complex geometry, physics, and chemistry. The methodology adopted here exploits the continuously evolving suite of combustion models of FLUENT®, GE Aviation’s User-Defined Functions (UDF’s), and High-Performance Computing (HPC). As such, it provides a framework to readily incorporate advances in simulation technology. Here we document the systematic validation of submodels for turbulence, fuel injection, droplet formation, droplet breakup, and turbulence-chemistry interactions.
