ANSYS Workbench Environment in Education

This year (2005) with ANSYS 9.0 last spring and 10.0 this fall, at the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, we have made a serious move to adopt the Workbench environment (WBE) in our FEA courses and student projects. This paper will discuss the impact/effects of the GUI change from ANSYS traditional to WBE in curriculum, instruction delivery, and in student acceptance. Several faculty have found they can cover more topics in the same time since modeling activities are simplified and students have bought in rapidly and independently to the WBE interface. Several case studies comparing the traditional ANSYS GUI vs. WBE will be presented.
