Fragmenting Wingbox - Case Study

The Fraunhofer Institute for High-Speed Dynamics, otherwise known as the Ernst-Mach-Institute (EMI), is concerned with the physical and technical aspects of high-speed mechanical and fluid dynamic processes. That includes experimental and numerical analysis of shock waves in solids, liquids, and gases; fluid-flow and combustion processes; impact and penetration processes over a wide range of velocities from 10 m/s to 10 km/s; the behaviour of structures under shock and impact; the behaviour of elastic media when highly stretched or at high rates of dilatation.
