Establishing the Design Space of a Sparged Bioreactor on Microsoft Azure
Bioreactors are the heart of many pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. One goal of a bioreactor is to operate at process conditions that provide sufficient oxygen to suspended cells. The pharmaceuticals industry has adopted CFD modeling as a cost-saving option to characterize the inter-dependencies between tank design and process operating conditions. However, the simulation time and compute resources required can be quite extensive. This case study reviews the use of the ANSYS Fluent UberCloud container executed on Microsoft Azure Cloud resources to simulate the design space of a production-scale sparged bioreactor.
