Case Study: Delta Wing at Low Subsonic Speed

Delta wings are designed for supersonic speeds. However, aircrafts with delta wings must take off and land at subsonic speeds. At subsonic speeds a pair of vortices form above the delta wing generating the so-called vortex lift, which adds to the potential flow lift. This case study demonstrates how the aerodynamic characteristics of a delta wing at subsonic speeds can be investigated using Ansys Discovery, including parametric geometry generation, meshing, simulation for the relevant range of angles of attack, and post-processing.
