Ansys and Baker Hughes reveal record-breaking results from the largest CFD simulation ever conducted using AMD GPUs, reducing the overall simulation runtime from 38.5 hours to just 1.5.
Using Ansys Fluent and 1,024 AMD Instinct™ MI250X GPUs on the world's first exascale supercomputer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Baker Hughes solved a massive 2.2-billion-cell axial turbine simulation — a scale previously out of reach for commercial CFD software. By harnessing the raw computational power of exascale systems, the collaboration dramatically accelerates design iteration cycles and shortens the path from concept to market. The result is a breakthrough in CFD simulation that sets a new standard for accuracy and speed, empowering engineers to design and validate high-performance machinery entirely in a virtual environment.
March 2026
In 2026 R1, Ansys Fluent continues to deliver critical enhancements to improve solver performance, end user productivity, and workflow speeds.
In 2026 R1, the Fluent GPU Solver now supports volume of fluid (VOF) with energy, battery thermal abuse and conjugate heat transfer analysis, thickened flame model (TFM) compatibility with chemistry agglomeration (CA), and 2X speed-ups for the finite rate stiff chemistry solver.
The Fluent Web Interface—a new modernized UI/UX available on your web browser—now supports shape optimization and the virtual blade model (VBM). Direct post-processing is also now available on the Fluent GPU Solver for faster post-processing of your GPU-based simulation results. Single job submissions to on-prem clusters is now available using Ansys High Performance Computing Platform Services (HPS) now integrated into Ansys Fluent.
Physics accuracy improvements have been made to the Fluent Aero and Fluent Icing Workspaces – dedicated GUIs for external aero and icing studies available from the Fluent Launcher. For battery modeling, a battery ROM toolkit is now available, as well as BPX file import support for enhanced battery modeling accuracy.
Ansys Fluent unlocks new potentials for CFD analysis. A fluid simulation software with fast pre-processing and faster solve times to help you be the fastest to break into the market. Fluent’s industry leading features enable limitless innovation, while never making a compromise on accuracy.

ANSYS FLUENT RESOURCES & EVENTS
Ansys developed a new turbulence model family called Generalize k-w (GEKO) model with the goal of turbulence model consolidation. GEKO is a two-equation model, based on the k-w model formulation, but with the flexibility to tune the model over a wide range of flow scenarios.
This report is intended as an addition to the code-specific Theory and User Documentation available for both Ansys Fluent and Ansys CFX. That documentation describes in detail how to select and activate these models, so that information is not repeated here.
The goal of this paper is to guide a user through the process of optimal RANS model selection within the Ansys CFD codes, especially Ansys Fluent and Ansys CFX.
