Achieving Electronics System Reliability for 5G Designs

5G network infrastructure will rely on high-frequency mmWave spectrum, massive multiple- input-multiple-output (MIMO), small cells and beamforming and beam tracking capabilities. These will increasingly complicate the design of 5G systems that must now absorb huge amounts of antenna data, support a variety of 5G air interfaces — massive machine type communication (MTC), enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) and ultra-reliable and low latency communication (URLLC) — and offer significantly higher processing capabilities within a power- and thermal-constrained environment.

In this presentation, Dr. Norman Chang, chief technologist for ANSYS/semiconductors, addresses reliability challenges, including electromigration (EM), thermal-aware EM, thermal-induced mechanical stress, electrostatic discharge (ESD) and device aging: All are key for 5G electronics systems design to enable mission-critical applications of the future, e.g., self-driving cars.

A Case Study in Additive Manufacturing: Optimizing Geometry-Specific Process Parameters for SLM Builds

In this webinar, guest speakers from The Welding Institute (TWI) and the ANSYS Granta team present a software-based application for optimizing process parameters for selective laser melting (SLM) builds.

The “holy grail” of metal additive manufacturing (AM) is producing reliable, high-performance parts with minimal post-processing required. This demands geometry-specific process parameters that enable a near-uniform thermal history throughout the build.

Through the collaborative PASSPORT project, TWI and ANSYS have explored a software solution for selecting process parameters for AlSi10Mg SLM parts, based on metallurgical characterization results.

Optimizing the Structural Integrity of the Titan Misalignment Flange

Titan Subsea Innovations used ANSYS Mechanical structural software to run finite element analysis (FEA) simulations on its imported 3D CAD models. The automatic contact detection feature, simplified meshing tools and intuitive graphical user interface enabled an easy setup of the simulation. Post-processing tools, such as stress path linearization and contact pressure mapping, delivered a simple and reliable assessment of how well the flange complied with applicable specifications and design criteria. When engineers modified a CAD model based on results, the simulation setup updated smoothly while maintaining all the parameters of the previous iteration.
