Synopsys and Ansys power the future of innovation—connecting silicon to systems.

Fundamentals of Explicit Dynamic Analysis Teaching Package

This teaching package provides educators with the resources needed to introduce the fundamentals of explicit dynamic analysis using Ansys LS-DYNA® nonlinear dynamics structural simulation softwarewithin Ansys Workbench™ simulation integration platform.

Designed for flexibility, the package includes lecture slides, simulation files, quiz questions, case examples, and a tutorial that can be used together or individually depending on course needs. Students explore physical principles, numerical methods, explicit solvers, time integration, mass scaling, stable time-step considerations, energy conservation, element formulation, and hourglass control. Applied examples, including Taylor Impact, ball-on-plate impact, and crushing, help connect solver setup and model quality checks to real engineering scenarios. The implementation guide includes a curriculum workflow example with in-class activities, homework, and larger assignment suggestions.
