Fundamentals of Dynamic Analysis using LS-DYNA in Ansys Workbench: Part I

This learning module introduces the foundational concepts of dynamic analysis using Ansys LS-DYNA® nonlinear dynamics structural simulation software within the Ansys Workbench™ (WB) simulation integration platform, focusing on the physical principles, numerical methods, and simulation workflows that govern explicit dynamics. Students and educators will explore how engineering problems are formulated and solved through numerical and structural analysis, with emphasis on explicit solvers, time integration, and mass scaling techniques. The resource also covers energy conservation, element formulation, and hourglassing control, ensuring accurate and stable simulations. The module concludes with a Taylor Impact case study, guiding learners through a real-world example of material deformation under high strain rates—an essential introduction to dynamic behavior in engineering systems. Additional information on this topic can be found in the 2nd part of this lecture series, linked below.
