Overview
Composite materials offer opportunities to reduce both weight and environmental impact in demanding applications. Replacing traditional metal components with composites can lower fuel consumption, reduce emissions during the use phase and enable new design possibilities. However, composite selection requires careful consideration of mechanical performance, manufacturing processes and dampening/resonance.
In this webinar, we will use Ansys Granta Selector to explore replacing an automotive driveshaft with a composite alternative. We will examine the performance requirements under cyclic loading — including operating environment—and identify composite systems that can meet these demands. We will also identify potential weight savings and identify areas for further investigation and/or simulation.
We will also review the composites data available in Ansys Granta Selector, including fiber-reinforced systems and their environmental profiles, and show how to transfer this data to Ansys simulation tools.
