CubeSat Optical Systems: Design Theory and Multiphysics Workflow Introduction

Part One of The Ansys Optics Concept to CubeSat Webinar to Workshop Series.

Join our webinar for an introduction to compact lens system design In Zemax OpticStudio capturing distortion, geometric and chromatic aberrations, and now diffraction followed by importing the design directly into Speos for full-scene camera simulation at dramatically faster speeds than full-geometry approaches.

Overview

For decades, optical systems developed for low, medium, and high Earth orbit required custom packaging form factors and opto-mechanics designed on a system-by-system basis creating cost barriers and extended development timelines.

CubeSats have emerged as a transformative solution: lightweight nanosatellites using standardized form factors that enable low-cost, easily manufacturable space-based optical systems for applications ranging from laser communications to Earth imaging. This standardization offers aerospace companies a unique opportunity to develop production line approaches for satellite constellations of smaller, more affordable systems.

In this webinar we will explore the theory behind CubeSat standardized design, the critical challenges in developing optical payloads for space environments, trace the platform's evolution into mission-critical systems, and discover how Ansys part of Synopsys’ multiphysics workflows provide accurate, reliable methods for optical design, opto-mechanical packaging, and modeling structural-thermal impacts systems experience in-orbit.
