Diagnosing Nonlinear Structural Solutions in ANSYS Mechanical

Linear, elastic, static structural analysis has always been the most common structural analysis methodology. However, as the need for higher fidelity simulations continues to grow, nonlinear structural solutions are becoming increasingly more common. Nonlinear structural behavior is caused by strains exceeding the material’s elastic limit, deformations changing the structural stiffness, and/or changing contact status. All of these nonlinearities add to the complexity of the solution. ANSYS Mechanical 14.5 contains a robust set of nonlinear diagnostic tools applicable to each of the nonlinear behaviors.
