Overview

Lightweighting remains a priority across industries, from automotive to aerospace to industrial equipment. Reducing component weight can improve fuel efficiency, enhance performance and lower material costs. However, replacing traditional materials like metals with lighter alternatives such as polymers or composites requires careful consideration of service conditions—temperature extremes, chemical exposure, mechanical loads and durability must all be evaluated.

In this webinar, we will use Ansys Granta Selector to explore replacing a brass throttle valve component with a suitable polymer. We will examine the demanding service conditions the component must withstand, identify polymers that can meet these requirements and compare candidates on weight savings, cost and manufacturability. We will also address common concerns when transitioning from metal to polymer, and how to identify potential issues.

We will also review the polymer and metals data available in Ansys Granta Selector and demonstrate how to export selected material properties to Ansys simulation tools for design validation.
