Fighting Cardiovascular Diseases with in silico Solutions

Computational modeling and simulation (CM&S) of cardiovascular devices and their working environment — the human body and heart — is the most promising way to accelerate and amplify medical innovation while limiting the risk for the patients through in silico research, in silico testing, and in silico clinical trials.

Our simulations go beyond an advanced cardiovascular system model by using multiscale, multiphysics simulations in a suite of connected tools to provide a complete and pragmatic solution.

Dr. Paul Morris

NIHR Clinical Lecturer at University of Sheffield

Dr Morris graduated as a medical doctor in 2004, became a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2007 and then held a number of fellowships and research grants (BHF, NIHR, MRC, WT). He is currently Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sheffield and Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at the South Yorkshire Cardiothoracic Centre, Sheffield Teaching hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He holds a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Career Development Fellowship and is Director for Clinical Translation at the Insigneo Institute for In Silico Medicine. Dr Morris' research interests are in computational modelling of cardiac physiology and heart disease. He is interested in the construction, development and validation of predictive computational workflows which predict cardiac physiology to improve assessment and guide interventional decisions.

Adelaide De Vecchi

Head of Research, King's College London

After completing her PhD in Aeronautics at Imperial College London, Dr de Vecchi worked at the University of Oxford on methods for precision medicine in cardiovascular diseases. She is now Head of the Research Department of Digital Twins for Healthcare in the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences at King’s College London, where she pursues her vision to enhance synergies between mechanistic and data-driven models to enable the full potential of digital twins to enhance diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases. Recently she has been working on integrating her methodology with statistical and probabilistic modelling and tensor networks. Her specific research interests include predictive modelling applied to thrombosis, single ventricle diseases, aortic coarctation, and pulmonary hypertension.

Dr. Alan Wei

Assistant Professor at Worcester Polytechnic Institute

Dr. Zhenglun (Alan) Wei is an Assistant Professor in Biomedical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute with an adjunct appointment in Radiology at UMass Chan Medical School. He leads the AIMCardio Lab, where his team develops advanced computational and experimental models to study cardiovascular fluid mechanics, spanning adult, fetal, and cerebrovascular systems. With a background in aerospace and mechanical engineering, Dr. Wei integrates medical imaging, fluid-structure interaction, and machine learning with experimental methods such as physiological mock loops and particle image velocimetry. His research focuses on patient-specific in silico modeling, congenital heart disease, implantable device design, and surgical planning. Widely published with over 80 technical papers and conference contributions, he is recognized for advancing personalized approaches to cardiovascular health and medical device innovation.
