Exploring Carbon Footprint for a Formula Student Car using Ansys Tools

In the world of automotive engineering, sustainability and environmental consciousness are becoming increasingly important. Formula Student/SAE and BAJA, collegiate engineering competitions, present ideal platforms to integrate eco-friendly design practices into high-performance vehicles. This guide outlines the process of using the Eco Audit tool within Ansys Granta EduPack™, a teaching software for materials education, or Ansys Granta Selector™, a materials selection software, for a component of a Formula Student car. The audit’s objective is to analyze the environmental impact of the component’s materials and manufacturing processes and suggest improvements. A real-world example of the Upright Main Car Body within a Formula Student car is used to provide clarity.
