Elemental Data Exercises using the Ansys Granta EduPack Software

Data from the Periodic Table of Elements can provide unique insight into materials and their properties. This set of exercises utilizes the Elements database within Ansys Granta EduPack™, a teaching software for materials education, to explore atomic data such as crystal structure, electronegativity, and more and how such properties can be plotted to show relationships between various material properties. Specific topics covered in this set include: the mechanical, optical, thermal, electrical, magnetic, and nuclear properties of elements, as well as their origins and trends. These exercises accompany the Exploring Elemental Data with the Ansys Granta EduPack Software Lecture presentation, linked below.

Learning Outcomes

  • Knowledge of the Periodic Table and understanding of underlying principles
  • Ability to explore fundamental scientific relationships using the elements
  • Insight into the ways elements influence material properties, e.g., bond type
