Design and Simulation of Rectangular Waveguides using Ansys HFSS Software
In this case study, the basic steps involved in designing and simulating a rectangular waveguide, are explored using Ansys HFSS™ high-frequency electromagnetic simulation software within Ansys Electronics Desktop (AEDT)™ electronics systems design platform are shown. Emphasis is given on how to visualize the fields of different propagating modes inside the waveguide. Additionally, two interesting variations of waveguide parameters, (1) waveguides with equal dimensions and (2) waveguides partially filled with solid material, and the impact these variations have on the modes of the rectangular waveguide have also been illustrated.
This case study includes software screenshots with steps highlighted for geometry definition, excitations, and solution setup, process, and results. It could be used for an in-class exploration or as a homework assignment.
