Bioengineering Materials Exercises for the Ansys Granta EduPack Software

Developing products for use on and in the body adds another layer of complexity when selecting materials for a design. Biomaterials are categorized as any matter, surface, or construct that interacts with biological systems. This ranges from bandages and contact lenses to stents and hip replacements. Understanding the needs of these biological systems and how this impacts biomaterials selection is critical to designing these products. This resource contains a set of exercises and solutions that support biomaterials teaching using the Bioengineering Level 2 and Level 3 databases in Ansys Granta EduPack™, a teaching software for materials education. They explore the properties of different classes of biomaterials with engineering materials and show simple examples of selecting biomaterials for different applications.
