ANSYS Engineering Knowledge Manager (EKM) is a web-based multi-user collaborative solution that is aimed at meeting the simulation process and data management challenges faced by our customers. ANSYS EKM is tightly integrated with other ANSYS simulation offerings and it can also be very easily integrated with other simulation codes including legacy and competitor’s software.
ANSYS EKM permits various levels of product deployment. It is truly scalable from an individual user to enterprise level implementations. Multiple users in a workgroup environment can use ANSYS EKM to automate simulation processes, workflows and perform project management tasks. This helps improve the communication and collaboration among various group members. In the case of an ANSYS EKM Workgroup deployment, it includes a content manager, file server, relational database and web server all bundled and installed together.
ANSYS EKM Workgroup is an "out-of-the-box" pre-configured setup of ANSYS EKM since all software components necessary to run ANSYS EKM are supplied as a part of the standard installation. It is suitable for teams of up to 15 users. ANSYS EKM Workgroup is available in two licensing options:
- Workgroup 1 which includes 10 named users, 3 simultaneous users and a server license
- Workgroup 2 which includes 15 named users, 5 simultaneous users and a server license
By selecting one of the ANSYS EKM Workgroup licensing models, users can start realizing the value benefit from ANSYS EKM Workgroup product with minimal IT and setup requirements.
ANSYS EKM Services
ANSYS EKM offers three distinct services that are tightly coupled together, data management, process management and access management.
Data Management
Any digital file, including simulation files, can be managed in ANSYS EKM. When files are added to the ANSYS EKM repository, the meta-data or user properties are automatically extracted from the supported ANSYS simulation files. This meta-data is used in searching and retrieving the files, as well as creating “Simulation Detail” and “Comparison” reports. Data mining allows users to extract and share results from the simulation files. The configuration management available supports version and revision control, also the pedigree tracking function helps users understand the implicit and explicit dependency in an intuitive, visual way.

Process Management
The process management service allows users to define workflows and simulation processes in ANSYS EKM. Users can create workflow templates or flow diagrams that identify tasks, decision making points and transitions between tasks. These workflows coordinate all aspects of the simulation process and data management, and can be published and executed in ANSYS EKM. Automatic assignment of tasks, email notifications and status monitoring is handled seamlessly by such workflows. This helps in load balancing and taking care of critical bottlenecks in the simulation processes.

Access Management
The web enabled interface in ANSYS EKM allows secure access to the data repository and compute server from local or wide area networks. It enables users to view and access data or submit and track simulation jobs remotely.
Customized applications can be easily defined, posted and published using the web portal capability in ANSYS EKM. These customized applications allow even non-expert users to run specific analyses using posted templates, as well as perform what-if analysis in order to determine if the simulation meets the expectation.
