About this Webinar

We’ll highlight a collaborative project with HPE where Ansys HFSS and Ansys Lumerical INTERCONNECT were used with other Ansys tools for design scoping, optimization, and multiphysics analyses of an electronic-photonic 3D-IC transceiver for PCI express with co-packaged optics for data center applications. We’ll show signal and power integrity analyses’ results and how TSV configuration, package channel length, receiver-side equalization, and RDL densities achieved an overall system data rate of 384 Gb/s.  On the photonics side, we will show a novel optimization technique and a workflow for thermal power budgeting in co-packaged optics.

What You Will Learn

  • What is an open silicon photonics ecosystem model
  • Case study 1: Optically Connected All-to-All Network via SiPh I/O Nodes
  • Exploration and optimization of an optical link for All-to-All Network
  • Case study 2: Design methodology for thermal tuning power budgeting in Photonic Integrated Circuits

Who Should Attend

3D-IC, 5G, and photonic design engineers

Speakers

Interposer
Dr. Luca Ramini

Dr. Luca Ramini is a research scientist in the Large Scale Integrated Photonics Lab at Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Luca’s research interests include the design of photonics circuits and optical networks. Before working with HPE Labs, Luca worked as Postdoc at the University of Ferrara (Italy), a contract Professor at the University of Verona, and a silicon photonics designer at STMicroelectronics (Italy).

Dr. Marco Fiorentino

Dr. Marco Fiorentino received a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Naples, Naples, Italy. He is currently a Research Scientist with Hewlett Packard Enterprise Labs. Before joining HPE Labs, in 2005, he was with Northwestern University, the University of Rome, and MIT. He has worked on optics, high-precision measurements, and optical communications. Marco has authored or co-authored more than 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals, given numerous contributions, and invited talks to international conferences.

Guanhui Wang

Guanhui Wang works for the Ansys Lumerical ACE team. She received her master’s in electrical and computer engineering from McGill University, Montreal, QC, Canada, in 2012. She has devoted herself to building Compact Model Libraries (CMLs) and supporting the development of the INTERCONNECT interoperability Electronic/Photonic Design Automation (EPDA) design environment.

Usman Saeed

Usman Saeed received his master’s and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2008 and 2011. Since then, he has worked in various firms, including GE, Qorvo, Murata, and Ansys, in R & D and product design groups. His expertise is in electromagnetics, RF design, and electrical integrity of high-speed digital systems. Usman is an Application Engineer at Ansys and supports Ansys’ customers to successfully use Ansys simulation tools and technologies to achieve their product design goals.
