Ansys Employee Spotlights

Indranil Roy

I optimize the sales process

How I’d Explain My Job to a Kindergartener

For a kindergartner I would keep it simple. I help my colleagues at work successfully sell our products. As a fun example, imagine a kid in the neighborhood wants to set up a lemonade stand to raise money for a local charity. My role would be to help them make the most of their business, including identifying the best location, advertising the stand with attractive posters and signs, creating good recipes, maintaining a good quality product, offering fair pricing, and teaching them how to interact with potential customers.

What I Actually Do

I lead Sales Operations for India and the South Asia Pacific region. My primary role is to support, enable, and drive the sales team to sell more effectively and efficiently. Essentially, we work behind the scenes to optimize the sales process and make sure the sales team is aligned with the company’s overall business objectives.

My Career Journey

I have been part of the Ansys family for more than 20+ years now. I joined Ansys in October 2001, when Ansys established its office in India. After joining the company, my incredible journey started where I had the opportunity to work in multiple roles. I started as a sales executive, elevated to senior sales executive, then promoted to area manager and then to a regional manager role. During this time, Ansys India was growing rapidly, and we needed to support leadership and the sales team to build an ecosystem to make them more effective and efficient to support future growth.

To support the future growth in 2011, I was given a new responsibility to lead and build the sales operations team for India. It was a new exiting role for me where I had the opportunity to learn more skills including, enhancing productivity, understanding business intelligence, forecasting, license compliance, and improving cross-departmental collaboration, etc. In my current role, I contribute to the strategy and drive changes, which impact revenue and gain more internal exposure.

Why I Choose Ansys

At Ansys, I am part of something special. The work I do gives me a sense of immense pride, belonging and most importantly, inclusiveness. I feel the work I do here is meaningful and has a purpose, which contributes to making our customers successful and ultimately to our company’s growth. In addition, I am always recognized for my contributions, and I feel respected by my peers and leadership team. I believe in our leadership to make the best decision for the company.

My Best Advice

My advice to new team members would be to make the most of your Ansys journey by being honest, respectful, and accountable. It’s important to have a strong work ethic by upholding the company values and doing the right thing. Keep an open mind, have a positive attitude and be a lifelong learner. Lastly, I strongly believe in teamwork.

Getting Involved

I am member at Rise Against Hunger, an international hunger relief organization that envisions a world without hunger. I was introduced to this organization during one of my visits to Ansys headquarters in Canonsburg, Pa. I was privileged to listen to their presentation and be part of a group who volunteered to prepare meals that were sent to Nicaragua. The presentation was a revelation for me on how hunger impacts our communities across the globe from health, education, and economy. From that point forward, I decided that I needed to be part of the program and do my part and contribute through donations and participation. I want to be part of a world where everyone has access to food all year around.

In addition, I also support the Lila Poonawalla Foundation, a non-profit public charitable trust in India. They support young girls with their educational aspirations and empower them by offering need-based scholarships and skill building programs. Again, I need to thank Ansys for introducing me to this wonderful organization. Lila Poonawalla Foundation was selected as one of the charities we supported in the APAC regions during the 2021 Worldwide Sales Conference. I believe for a nation to be successful we need to give priority to girl’s education, create an environment where gender equality is respected, empower our girls/women with economic independence.
