Ansys Workbench

Personal project platform for managing all your Ansys products

From CAD and meshing to physics simulations and post-processing, access all your Ansys products in one location.

Ansys Workbench: where better decisions are made

The real world happens all at once. To validate your design ideas, you need tests that provide real-world scenarios. And in the real world, physics doesn’t take turns. The Ansys Workbench platform lets you integrate data across engineering simulations to create more accurate models more efficiently.

Ansys Workbench makes it easier to make more informed design choices by coordinating all your simulation data in one place.

Ansys Workbench is the integration and workflow platform that connects Ansys products. The project schematic enables users to configure their simulation processes, optimize exploration through parametric management, submit jobs to solver both locally and remote, and add APIs that allow for third-party software.

Yes. You can directly import CAD into Ansys Workbench by easily dragging and dropping a geometry component into the project schematic. From there, you can import a range of models from CAD packages such as AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks, and more. To see which CAD packages are supported, view our complete list.

To download Ansys Workbench, first, you must be an Ansys customer and have access to the Customer Portal. Ansys Workbench is included in these software bundles: Structures, Fluids, Fluids and Structures, PrepPost, and Optical. Ansys Workbench is also included in the free Ansys Student bundle.

Once you download the commercial or academic bundles on the Ansys Customer portal and install the Ansys Structures and Fluids software packages of your choice, you can access Workbench in the Ansys folder from your Stvariousart menu.

Although Workbench Meshing is not a product in itself, there are various products available in Workbench you can use to generate a mesh. In the Workbench component system, you can choose Mesh, which uses a more focused version of the Ansys Mechanical interface. Other products for meshing are available to choose from, such as Fluent, ICEM, SpaceClaim, and more.

Workbench is a simulation management tool that connects Ansys products, enabling users to configure their simulation processes and optimize exploration through parametric management and more—all on a user’s local workstation. For a SPDM (simulation process and data management) solution, Ansys Minerva, (powered by Aras) supports both on-premise and cloud deployment ecosystems, connecting team members regardless of geography and functional silos.

Watch simulations talk to each other

Need to see how stress analysis and fluid flow interact? Or how thermal affects the reliability of electronics systems? The Ansys Workbench platform lets you observe different physics simultaneously, passing data back and forth between simulations. If something changes in one simulation, you'll see it across all.

Key Features

Ansys Workbench optimizes the way your data is transferred across simulations, so that you can create more accurate and efficient models.

Ansys Workbench's CAD interoperability allows users to use their existing, native CAD geometry without changing to other geometry formats. Since Ansys Workbench is CAD-neutral, it supports bidirectional, directional, and associative interfaces with all major CAD systems.

Ansys Workbench offers an easy-to-use method to import external data that may have been simulated with a product that is not an Ansys product. A range of loads can be imported, including pressure, temperature, displacement, and much more. These loads are efficiently mapped to 2D and 3D to ensure no error with misalignment, non-matching units, or scaling.

A range of material models covering everything from hyperelastics, shape-memory alloys, soils, concrete, plastic and metallic structures can be accurately modeled in Mechanical.

You can also add user-defined material models if needed. Granta Materials Data for Simulation provides instant access to the materials property data you need, eliminating data search time and input errors. Material Designer can easily create representative volume elements (RVE’s) based around lattice, fiber, weave, or user-created geometries to facilitate multiscale modeling of complex material structures.

Ansys Workbench has automated, easy-to-use solutions to simulate fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems accurately and efficiently. Modeling approaches can vary depending on the level of FSI occurring, but Ansys Workbench has solutions for both one-way and two-way coupling. A simple drag-and-drop task will directly link your CFD and FEA analysis to transfer and map loads for one-way coupling. One-way coupling simulations can easily be transformed into two-way coupling using the System Coupling component with the same drag and drop approach.

Design exploration capabilities are directly embedded into the Workbench environment, allowing you to create a design of experiments, response surface, six sigma analysis, and more. Parameters and variables can easily be added or edited from the Ansys Workbench interface to the objectives and constraints you have for your simulation. Once your simulation is run, you can easily drag and drop component systems on the parameters you specified to create a response surface, sensitivity analysis and more, to reach the optimal design.

A wide range of Ansys products are accessible directly through the Ansys Workbench interface/environment. This allows a streamlined workflow from CAD to pre-processing to post-processing and optimization. All products are accessible through the simplicity of a drag-and-drop feature enabling you to use a product as a standalone system. Or use the innovative project schematic that ties together multiple products through the entire simulation process.

The Remote Solve Manager (RSM) is a job queueing system that enables users to submit a job to local, remote, or distributed computing resources. RSM allows you to take advantage of the power of HPC by using more computing power than you might have on your desktop or laptop computer. Even if the job is not solved on your workstation, you can still monitor the solution as it's solving elsewhere.
