Overview

Axial flux motors (AFMs) are increasingly used in applications that demand compact size, short axial length, and high torque density − from automotive to aerospace and industrial applications. Because AFMs have inherently 3D flux paths, they cannot use conventional 2D electromagnetic simulations like radial flux machines. Full 3D finite element analysis provides the needed accuracy but comes with long computation times that slow early-stage design.

In this webinar, we’ll show how engineers can speed up and optimize AFM design by combining Ansys MotorCAD’s fast multiphysics 2D equivalent linear model with Ansys Maxwell’s high-fidelity 3D electromagnetic solver. You’ll see how both tools work together across the full workflow − from concept modeling and topology selection to onload multiphysics performance checks, 3D calibration, optimization and efficiency map generation using drive cycles and variable speed analysis. Whether you design AFMs for automotive, motorsport, aerospace, or industrial applications, you’ll learn how to cut simulation time while maintaining the accuracy needed for confident engineering decisions.
