Quality by Design: The Strategic Role of Simulation in This Essential Pharmaceutical Initiative

Quality-by-Design (QbD) is a concept, encouraged by the FDA, that integrates quality testing into the early stages of pharmaceutical product development instead of waiting until a final product is available. Testing early, often and quickly requires engineering simulation, and more specifically computational fluid dynamics (CFD), to predict the fluid flow patterns, mixing characteristics, and heat/mass transfer behavior of many (bio)pharmaceutical unit operations.

Review different case studies illustrating how engineering simulation and CFD tools facilitate QbD by conducting what-if scenarios, optimizing operating parameters and designing equipment. Discover how simulation-assisted QbD improved product quality and reduced the time and cost of experimentation.
