On the Performance and Accuracy of Enhanced Particle Finite Element Method (PFEM-2) in the Solution of Biomedical Benchmarks

This paper presents the computational fluid dynamics studies with Ansys LS-DYNA ICFD on biomedical benchmark problems proposed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The numerical simulations of the benchmarks problems of blood nozzle, centrifugal blood pump and inferior vena cava were performed with ICFD finite element method (FEM) and enhanced particle finite element method (PFEM-2) formulations and the obtained flow fields are in agreement with the experimental measurements.
