ANSYS Mechanical Acoustics

Overview

Acoustics is the study of sound.  More specifically, it is the study of the generation, propagation, absorption, and reflection of sound pressure waves in an elastic medium.  Whether you are designing sonar, concert halls, speakers, mufflers, or any other type of acoustic device, this course will provide insight on how to use ANSYS Mechanical to perform Acoustics analysis.  It will provide a general understanding of acoustic phenomenon, terminology, and governing equations, while introducing the procedures for performing modal and harmonic acoustics analysis in ANSYS Mechanical.

Learning Outcome

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Understand the terminology and governing equations associated with acoustics.

  • Identify the material properties needed to characterize an acoustic medium.

  • Generate meshes suitable for modeling propagating sound waves.

  • Account for sound wave propagation through both fluid and solid domains, effectively taking into consideration the

  • fluid-structure interaction between the two domains.

  • Perform modal acoustics analysis to compute modes of an acoustic cavity that may aid in identifying undesirable

  • sources of sound.

  • Identity and define various acoustic excitations and use them to perform harmonic acoustics analysis.

Prerequisites

Completion of the ANSYS Mechanical Getting Started course is required.

Target Audience: Mechanical Engineers, Design Engineers and Designers who have an interest in modeling sound.

Teaching Method: Lectures and computer workshops to give you the knowledge and confidence you will need to apply what you have learned to do your own designs.
