It all begins with SpaceClaim's direct modeling technology which accelerates the rapid creation or unfolding of sheet metal bodies. You can choose if you want to create a component in the sheet metal module, convert a solid body to sheet metal, or import data from virtually any CAD system.

Upon the automatic conversion to SpaceClaim sheet metal, advanced tools determine what types of features are present and adjustments should be made. With one click you can do things like square up corners for proper unfolding, change junction types, modify corner treatments, or adjust edge reliefs.

Optimization tools let you place things like gussets and hinges at appropriate places, making it simple to add strength and flexible joints. You can also take advantage of SpaceClaim's versatility by adjusting wall thickness, bend allowance, k factors, material properties, and leveraging bend tables of a component at any time.

SpaceClaim offers simultaneous Viewing of both the bend and unfolded models so you can see the effects of changes in both models. This bidirectional linkage enhances your decision making by giving you live design feedback. When your data is finalized you can export to any neutral 3-D format, or export to commonly used 2-D formats for laser or punch presses.
