Course Overview

This course is the stepping-stone to understanding Ansys Mechanical at its core and unleashing its full potential.

The course begins with advanced postprocessing functionality native to Mechanical, followed by an in-depth exposure to two important Workbench applications, External Data and External Model, gateways for modelling complex, spatially varying environmental conditions and importing legacy models from Ansys and other FEA software. 

The course also reveals the relationship between the Mechanical user interface and the core Ansys solver.  The content of a Mechanical model, as the solver sees it, is a list of commands. With every new release of Ansys, advancements in element and solver technology become available, as commands, but those capabilities don’t often appear in Mechanical until several releases later.  Once you have the knowledge of how the Ansys command language operates, you can tap into all the capabilities Ansys has to offer.

Prerequisites

  • Completion of the Ansys Mechanical Getting Started course is required.

Mechanical engineers, design engineers, and designers working within any discipline who want to take their knowledge of Ansys Mechanical to the next level.

Learning Outcome

Following successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • use advanced postprocessing tools in Mechanical that are useful for comparing results directly against design codes, or indirectly through custom-calculated results quantities. 
  • import, assemble, and work with legacy Ansys models and material libraries that were not developed in the Workbench Mechanical interface.
  • have a keen understanding of the relationships among the Workbench environment, Mechanical models, and the corresponding definition of that model in Mechanical APDL (MAPDL) solver terms.
  • use APDL command language inside Ansys Mechanical, gaining access to advanced features.
  • learn how to use the MAPDL interface to verify and postprocess models, gaining access to results quantities that may otherwise be unavailable within Mechanical.
  • gain an understanding of APDL command syntax, as well as APDL scalar and array parameters, enabling the export of results data to any format desirable.
