Ansys Mechanical Rotordynamics

Course Overview

This course focuses on the vibrational analysis of rotating machinery in Ansys Mechanical, including evaluation of critical speeds, Campbell diagrams, whirl orbits, and associated bearing implementation. One-dimensional, two-dimensional, and three-dimensional geometries are covered, as well as connection to non-rotating support structures. Relevant theory, product application, and hands-on workshops are all included with the course materials.


    Completion of Ansys Mechanical Getting Started is required.

Target Audience: 

Primarily Mechanical Engineers, including Rotating Machinery Engineers, Vibrations Engineers, Dynamics Engineers, and similar sub disciplines.

Teaching Method: 

Lectures and practical hands-on workshops to validate acquired knowledge.

Learning Outcome

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Carry out the basic end-to-end rotordynamics analysis process in Ansys Mechanical.
  • Understand the underlying technical and analysis features that are unique to rotordynamics.
  • Describe and apply the essential rotordynamics analysis capabilities: computation of critical speeds, prediction of rotor whirl and system stability, computation of unbalance response, and consideration of start=up and shut-down transient responses.
