# 2D Extractor Solver Option

The 2D Extractor Solver Option includes a quasi-static 2D electromagnetic field solver that uses the finite element method (FEM) for calculating the per-unit-length RLCG parameters of transmission lines and cable cross sections. Other results such as characteristic impedance (Z0), propagation speed, delay, attenuation, effective permittivity, mixed-mode parameters, and near- and far-end crosstalk coefficients are solved for analysis as well. The powerful Fields Calculator can be utilized to calculate any other electromagnetic results that are needed, such as the current coming out of a cable or the skin depth over-penetration across a broadband frequency range.

## Transmission Line Toolkit

This toolkit provides an intuitive and easy-to-use interface for creating parameterized 2D geometries that are solved with the 2D Extractor FEM solver. These parameterized models are generally used to create Tabular W-elements for use in circuit simulation or for determining the characteristic impedance of single-ended, differential, or CPW transmission line geometries. ## Automated Meshing

2D Extractor uses automatic mesh refinement to obtain an accurate solution over broadband frequencies. The adaptive mesh refinement algorithm creates a denser mesh in electrically important regions until the specified convergence criteria are met. In this coaxial cable example, the mesh is much finer on and around the inner conductor where the electric and magnetic fields are the strongest.

The Cabling Toolkit provides an intuitive and easy-to-use interface for creating cable model cross sections for the automotive industry along with the oil and gas industry. These specialized interfaces use the 2D Extractor Solver for RLCG per unit length analyses. These models predict electrical performance and potential EMI issues that arise within electrical and electronic products.
