Turbomachines are rotodynamic machines used either to increase the pressure or enthalpy of fluids by spending or producing shaft work at the expense of fluid energy. Practically all branches of the engineering industry use turbomachines for various applications. The design and analysis of the turbomachines is now aided significantly — and usually completed — by computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
This webinar will focus on a variety of turbomachines, explores their hardware, models complicated passages and identifies the computational domains. Delivering dynamic case study demonstrations, we will discuss the governing partial differential equations (PDEs) for complex multiphysics problems — together with initial/boundary conditions — and highlight the numerical methods and use of Ansys tools for solving them.

Who should attend?
Dr. B.V.S.S.S.Prasad obtained his master’s in technology and Ph. D degrees in mechanical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He is currently professor and principal coordinator of the CFD centre in the department of mechanical engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Madras. Dr. Prasad was a visiting Professor and research scientist at the Technical University of Nova Scotia, Halifax, Canada and University of Michigan Dearborn, U.S.A. respectively. He collaborated with Chalmers University, Sweden, Abo Akademi, Finland and Penn State University, USA for industry related projects. His research areas include thermo fluid dynamics, turbomachines, energy conversion technologies including fluidization technology and CFD. The heat flux gauges developed by him are widely used by several research investigators and industrial users in India. Dr. Prasad has guided 20 Ph. D and 80 masters’ students. He has published more than 200 research papers in various international journals and conference proceedings. Dr.Prasad undertook several sponsored and consultancy projects for the government as well as public and private sector organizations.
Dr. Prasad is a life member of K-14 (Heat Transfer) group of IGTI (ASME). He was Secretary of the Indian Society for Heat and Mass Transfer and President of Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power Society of India. He is currently the President of Fluid Power Society, Madras Chapter.
