Design and optimization of a high-performance electric machine requires a multi-stage process to account for three major performance metrics including electromagnetic, structural/acoustic, and thermal. Traditionally, designs were based on a single physics and were conducted by separate engineering groups, but by using a Multiphysics and system platform, the comprehensive solution package empowers organizations to consider all critical design goals simultaneously without compromising solution accuracy.

The goal of this seminar is to discuss physics involved in electric machine operation and provide simulation solutions that enable faster, more reliable and more efficient designs. The following solutions along with methods to couple these solutions will be discussed:

  • Electromagnetic Solutions:
    •  Demagnetization and advanced electromagnetic loss calculations
    • Optimization of electric machine performance
    • Electromagnetic force calculations and magnetostriction effect
  • Thermal Solutions:
    •  CFD model creation for a water-cooled electric motor
    • One-way and two-way coupling between electromagnetic and CFD solvers
    • Tips and tricks on modeling oil-cooled motors
  • Vibration and Noise Solutions:
    •  Vibration analysis and waterfall diagram generation
    • Sound synthesis to listen to motor acoustic noise
    • Stress analysis of motor lamination
  • System and Control Solutions:
    •  Generation of an electromagnetic Reduced-Order-Model (ROM)
    • Creation of a thermal ROM
    • Vector control of electric motors

Please register early to reserve your spot. Lunch will be provided.
