The Use of Material Designer for Analyses of UD Composite Materials

Material Designer (MD) is an ANSYS application that allows users to model and analyze microstructures and derive homogenized material properties.

In this white paper, we present the elastic properties of fiber-reinforced composites calculated with Material Designer. This homogenization focuses on unidirectional (UD) carbon fibers and glass fibers embedded in a polymer matrix. The relevant material properties are compared quantitatively to other computational approaches to assess the reliability of this new application.
