BFCart: Volume Meshing Tool

ANSYS BFCart mesher is the newest of the ANSYS ICEM CFD meshing tools.

For our Patch independent BFCart mesher, The user simply selects the CAD geometry (surfaces, curves and points) that describe the space to be meshed and ANSYS ICEM CFD BFCart automatically generates a body fitting Cartesian mesh. Maximum element sizes can be defined on the surfaces and in volumes to reflect areas with a high gradient in the flow field. ICEM CFD BFCart automatically meshes the volume by successive refinement until all grid density requirements are met. The resulting mesh is independent of the CAD patch structure.

In this Helicopter example, you can see that the Patch independent nature of BFCart walks over gap, slivers, and even surfaces folded back on them selves. The mesh can be guided by curves which are used to capture sharp features such as the symmetry line. STL data or a combination of STL and CAD data works just as well. In this case, 2 to 1 refinement was used and the resulting model is 100% pure hexa.

This simple sphere illustrates how the body fitting is accomplished. The mesh starts with Cartesian star step mesh, but then the outer layer (on specified parts or surfaces) is "offset" to produce Hexas parallel to the surface.
This simple corner pipe example shows what happens when surfaces are not marked for offset (Inflation).

ANSYS ICEM CFD BFCart is particularly effective on biomedical data or for explcit applications where uniform hexas are highly prized. See the features section below for more details.
